Honeymoon Destinations
Today we think of the honeymoon as a big holiday after the wedding, an excuse to buy a once in a lifetime vacation, possibly to somewhere exotic and exciting. The first honeymoons would have been far from that
Early peoples rarely travelled far - some never went more than a few miles from home during their entire lives. For many of them the honeymoon destination
would have simply been their new home. They'd just move in and close the door for a week or two - for some people today, that's still the best and most
romantic way to spend their honeymoon.
Hideaway
In some cases the honeymoon destination would literally be a place of hiding. Where the woman was kidnapped and married forcibly she coul be kept hidden until the family stopped looking for her. More romantically, a couple eloping to marry without parental permission might want to avoid being found by the family for as long as possible.
Packages
Today of course we have airlines, internet booking and companies that specialise in designing all inclusive honeymoon packages and romantic getaways. Popular locations vary from sun drenched beaches and tropical islands to the bright light of cities such as Las Vegas, from five star hotels to authentic local accomodation.
Wherever you choose to go the most important thing is, of course, the person you're with.
