Wedding Cake Topper
The wedding cake topper is now an accepted part of the modern marriage celebrations with a huge variety of designs on offer.

Topper Designs

"Standard" wedding toppers show a bride and groom together, however designs such as bells, good luck horseshoes and monograms are also popular. And, of course, you can buy humorous toppers - although how funny these actually are will depend on the sense of humour and sensibilities of those present. There are even cake toppers with distinctly adult themes - but think hard before using these. Will you end up having to explain them to the bridesmaids?

If the wedding itself has been designed around a theme - for example a hobby or interest of the couple - then you might want to consider buying cake toppers that fit with and reflect this theme.

History

The origin of the modern wedding cake topper is difficult to pin down. Simple forms of cake decorations probably appeared around the 17th century. The widespread acceptance of wedding cake toppers probably began - as did so many things - with the Victorians. Certainly by the early 20th century the weding cake topper was widely accepted.

Of course back then the choice of design available was strictly limited. Some of the modern toppers you can buy today would probably have caused riots in Victorian England!
